Using simplicity, humour and a juxtaposing image McDonalds have challenged the debate of how fresh their food is with this simple, yet highly effective advertisement. This is because the advertisement has been executed in a witty manner presenting fries sitting in a container clearly cut from a real potato. The fries appear freshly cut and the “potato container” also appear fresh in nature. Upon it is carved the iconic M representing the McDonalds brand.

This advertisement talks to men and women who enjoy eating at McDonalds or other fast food restaurants. It is shown here that unlike other fast-food places McDonalds only use fresh produces, encouraging the public to make the switch to McDonalds; the healthier and more reliable option. It also speaks to those who have ever questioned the origin and production of their food. McDonalds are making a statement here; our food is fresh.

The ad is simple, easily understood and portrays it’s message quickly and efficiently. It is obviously a packet of McDonalds chips cut from a real, fresh, quality potato. This image of their chips represented as so, guarantees us, the consumer, that what we are purchasing is from a raw material, grown and produced. This juxtaposition between a fresh potato and McDonalds fries creates a comedic twist. I enjoy it because of this humour and also because of how McDonalds' have taken the negative reports of their products freshness and turned it into both a cleaver retaliation and a witty response.
